Description

NOTE: This is a Los Angeles, California based position. LENAX Does Not Pay for Relocation or Travel Expenses for Interviews or if selected for a position. Candidates selected to move forward in the interview process must be available to interview within 24-48 hours’ notification. While a 2-days/week Telework “option” may be afforded, this is not a fully-remote position. The individual selected for the position must be able to report to the office, as needed, as an essential function of the job.

POSITION OVERVIEW

LENAX is looking for an early-career civil engineer with 3-5+ years of experience to provide support to the design team responsible for a progressive design-build, light rail project that includes rail stations, sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic signals light fixtures, environmental graphics, and other multimodal functions. The successful candidate will preferably have a design background with knowledge of construction.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification a plus.
  • Minimum, 3 – 5 years of directly applicable experience providing engineering services in support of a large, transportation project—ideally supporting rail and/or highway projects.
  • Knowledge of City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles municipal codes, regulations, permits, construction specifications, and design standards/criteria.
  • Working knowledge of general civil engineering design and site development including street work, demolition, grading, drainage, paving, utilities, landscaping, street lighting, permitting, traffic control, signalization, striping, and restoration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of the team or independently as required, self-manage tasks, and identify and resolve potential project issues before they arise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Bluebeam.
    PREFERRED, ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS – Preferred, but not required

The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following experience:

  • Professional experience working on design services for local transit, City and County agencies.
  • Working knowledge of transit organizations design criteria, standards and practices, preferred.
  • Experience working on design build transit projects.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and claims.
Responsibilities
  • Review and prepare responses to contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and requests for change (RFCs) with respect to technical merit and contract compliance.
  • Perform engineering analyses and prepare design plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, reports, and presentations to support project tasks.
  • Prepare project change notices, change orders, contract modifications.
  • Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to fulfill the needs of the project to acquire all necessary permits and approvals.
  • Support client in resolution of contractor claims including differing site conditions.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting notes.
  • Prepare project design deviation requests and requests for special considerations for the project.
  • Prepare project transmittals and correspondence.
  • Perform constructability reviews and support the construction staff on technical design issues.
  • Review and support the project on requests by adjacent property owners and developers.
  • Perform occasional site visits to investigate, evaluate, or document project conditions.
  • Collaborate with team of interdisciplinary design and construction professionals to complete project tasks and objectives.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
