PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC contractor, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Steam Turbine Generator (STG) Project Engineer (PE) reports to the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) and will assist in providing direction to engineers and coordinating between disciplines, other functions, customers, and subcontractors. This PE position will specifically focus on the Turbine Island Equipment scope (turbine, generator, condenser, feedwater heaters, deaerator, condenser air removal package, and condenser tube cleaning package), and will be responsible for managing related Customer and Supplier coordination as well as scope control. The position also resolves challenges and roadblocks internally as well as externally to engineering to maintain project schedule and quality requirements.
The ideal candidate will have solid technical and management experience in the activities listed above, and focused experience in Turbine Island Equipment design and procurement, delivering scope on schedule and budget on a complex project.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-SNH

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must have 10 years of cumulative experience in Engineering and Procurement of Turbine Island Equipment.
  • Experience in plant design (power plant), and large complex new build plants.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated skill in management.
  • Previous experience in support of state regulation and permitting requirements with respect to new plant siting.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication, planning, and organizational skills are essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Engineering License (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of quality, engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials, applications of computer software to engineering problems to ensure the design is cost-effective, in accordance with applicable safety, health, environmental regulations, customer requirements, and engineering codes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of engineering procedures, covering discipline deliverables, production, and control, as well as organization and responsibilities for the Engineering Department.
  • Thorough knowledge of business practices, project forecasting, and project control systems required.
  • Experience in resolving complex technical problems and the ability to articulate explanations is essential.
  • Experience in an Engineering Group Supervisor, Lead Supervisor role.
Responsibilities

  • Coordinate engineering effort with Project Manager, Procurement, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), and Project Controls.
  • Review and approve design documents, change orders, material requisitions, and specifications.
  • Manage the preparation of, review, and endorse bid analyses and recommendations for procurement of equipment material and services within Engineering’s scope of responsibility.
  • Resolve and respond to the client, regulator, or field-initiated questions on engineering.
  • Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to the client, project, and functional management as directed and as appropriate.
  • Champion the creation of a project work environment, supported by leadership on the project/program, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, inclusion, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
