PROJECT ESTIMATOR

Location: Fredericton, NB (On-site only)
Hours: 40 per week
Duration: 6 months (with potential extension)
Start Date: ASAP
Deadline for Applications: August 28, 2025
Preference: Local candidates to New Brunswick

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Engineering OR Engineering Technologist diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an estimating function for capital construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and estimating software such as In-Eight, Cleopatra, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating tools, databases, and cost methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • More than 5 years of estimating experience in capital construction projects.
  • Bilingual (English and French) communication skills.
  • Prior experience with NB-based projects is an asset.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

NB Power is seeking a skilled Project Estimator to provide cost estimating expertise that enables effective project management decision-making. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and validating estimates for capital construction projects, while coordinating with engineering, procurement, construction, scheduling, and cost control teams. The Estimator will also participate in Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) and contribute to process improvements in estimating practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare detailed project cost estimates based on project scope provided by Project Managers.
  • Review and validate estimates prepared by consultants to ensure accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Conduct earned value analysis to support project management and executive reporting.
  • Support the development of improved processes for linking Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) costs with project schedules.
  • Conduct field visits to validate and support estimates.
  • Collaborate with cost analysts to evaluate variances and recommend adjustments.
  • Update project cost estimates as scope and design evolve.
  • Develop and maintain project estimating procedures, guides, and templates aligned with industry best practices.
  • Participate in post-mortem reviews of project estimates and implement recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate inputs across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Scheduling, and Cost Control.
  • Provide input and participate in consultant-led QRA sessions.
