JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Project Estimator.
Reporting to the Section Manager, Projects & Planning, this position is responsible for supporting various business units by providing advice, guidance and direction on a wide range of projects. Be a champion for cost estimation best practices related to construction projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Review and assess cost estimates prepared by others to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cost estimates for engineering and construction projects.
  • Apply industry standards, Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) and OPG to all estimating work and ensure quality control.
  • Support the development and implementation of estimating standards, procedures, and processes.
  • Maintain benchmarking data and recommend best practice estimating tools and solutions.
  • Collaborate with contractors and consultants to improve estimating techniques and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in engineering, construction management, and project controls.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design theory, and construction technology.
  • Proficient in probability, statistics, and management sciences as applied to estimating.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates for large-scale or complex projects, ideally in power generation or industrial settings.
  • Skilled in using computer applications and specialized estimating software.
  • Proven ability to write and present technical documents, reports, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in teams and on committees.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
