Summary
Project Inspector, under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Works, ensures quality and compliance for Temple infrastructure (water/sewer, streets, drainage). This role focuses on on-site inspections, plan review, and quality assurance to ensure adherence to standards, manage testing, and facilitate communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts on-site inspections of infrastructure construction (water/sewer, streets, drainage), coordinates testing, and reviews reports
- Ensures compliance with the City’s Drainage Criteria and Design Manual (DCM) during permit reviews and inspections for drainage and erosion control
- Responds to citizen concerns about drainage, erosion, water, and sewer issues with site visits and photographic assessments
- Reviews infrastructure construction plans for specification and code adherence and performs design/plat reviews as needed
- Maintains detailed project records, including daily logs, photos, and electronic files
- Verifies monthly payment estimates for City projects
- Communicates effectively with engineers, City departments, contractors, and developers
- Interprets plans/specifications, reviews cut sheets, and inspects installed materials
- Prepares for and oversees various tests (hydrostatic, purity, pressure, sub-grade, asphalt)
- Reports construction project progress to the City Engineer or Project Manager
- Follows the city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in Construction Engineering Technology or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology or related field
