Automation Engineering Manager
In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments. Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completing the corresponding engineering assignments.
You will serve as the technical lead for assignments classified as low to medium engineering complexity, with expertise in pre-fabricated substation engineering (such as E-Houses, Power Supply Skids, or Mobile Substations) and/or electrical packages including LV, MV, Transformers, UPS, Distribution Boards, VSDs, and relay engineering. You will ensure efficient and cost-effective execution of all engineering disciplines in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. In collaboration with customers and ABB teams, you will contribute to excellent service delivery and actively identify new service business opportunities for ABB.

This role is reporting to the Automation Engineering Manager in Abu Dhabi. Main stakeholders are customers, contractors, suppliers, project managers, and engineering colleagues within ABB.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You are highly skilled in electrical packages/systems and the Oil & Gas and Power & Water sectors market
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, including hands-on experience with substation layout, single line diagrams, and electrical package installations
  • You are proficient in ABB and/or other electrical control systems, including MV and LV switchgears, transformers, UPS, DBs, VSDs, and relays
  • You are innovative around customer interpersonal skills, communication, and problem-solving
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • You are at ease communicating in English and are comfortable with contract negotiations and presenting to customers and suppliers
  • You are highly adept in preparing project schedules, resource plans, and progress reports for electrical package projects
  • Familiar with ADNOC/GCC specifications and international standards
  • You possess hands-on experience with pre-fabricated substation engineering (E-House/Skid) and can manage site activities independently (E-House Engineer)
  • You have experience in ABB and/or other relays and proficient in IED engineering tools, like ABB PCM600 with ABB Relion Series Relays or other tools (Relay Engineer)
Responsibilities
  • Collaborating on project installation, commissioning, and site activities to clarify potential issues or provide solutions to rectify engineering errors while ensuring HSE and quality compliance
  • Coaching the project engineers and designers on translating conceptual designs into engineering documentation, including modelling, prototyping, and calculations
  • Leading, supervising, and coordinating teams (less than 10 members) in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) on low to medium complexity projects
  • Applying design thinking and design for excellence concepts in projects, using standard tools and techniques for modelling, simulation, and calculations
  • Acting as a design authority and technical lead, approving design deliverables and executing assignments using established solutions for pre-fabricated substations and electrical packages
  • Interacting with customers, contractors, and suppliers; attending project meetings and resolving technical issues to meet contractual obligations and enhance customer satisfaction
  • Performing complex field service tasks, identifying technical issues, and recommending solutions to improve operational performance, including lifecycle upgrades and service support
  • Supporting Project Managers with risk and opportunity assessments, contract claims, and creating engineering estimates and proposals
  • Reviewing project documents and ensuring engineering activities for conformity with safety, quality, and contractual requirements
  • Acting as the customer focal point for services and projects, identifying new service business opportunities and supporting team development in substation and electrical systems
