Your New Role!
Murdoch University is seeking a number of Project Managers to lead the delivery of capital projects across a diverse range of sizes and complexities — from minor works under $250k, to small ( We welcome applications from candidates with varied levels of project management experience, as we are looking to fill multiple roles across this project spectrum. Whether you’re experienced in large-scale infrastructure or in delivering smaller, focused projects, we encourage you to apply.
As part of the Campus Development portfolio, these roles are crucial in driving these strategic projects from inception to completion. Depending on the level of responsibility, these positions require a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic oversight to deliver these projects on time, within scope, and on budget. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing external consultants and contractors, ensuring all project stages—from planning, design, and procurement through to construction and commissioning—are executed efficiently.
A key aspect of the role involves proactive engagement and collaboration with Murdoch delivery partners and stakeholders, and risk and opportunity management to best enable Murdoch investment priorities. The ability to coordinate across multiple internal and external stakeholders, including university leadership, academic units, delivery partners, government agencies, and consultants, is essential. The Senior Project Manager must balance competing priorities, ensuring each project aligns with the University’s sustainability commitments, operational objectives, and future-focused Campus Development Plan.
Beyond project execution, the Project Manager plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement within the portfolio by adopting industry best practice and innovation. This role contributes to shaping a sustainable, accessible, and dynamic campus that supports the University’s mission of fostering research, learning, and community engagement. Through effective leadership and strategic foresight, the Project Manager ensures that every project delivers value, enhances the student and staff experience, and reflects the University’s broader goals.

Your Key responsibilities will include –

  • Manage and Deliver Projects: Oversee the coordination, management, and successful delivery of a portfolio of projects in alignment with the University’s Capital Works Investment Plan.
  • Apply Industry Knowledge: Utilize expertise in design, procurement and construction methods/strategies, and supplier contract development, formation and management.
  • Ensure Compliance and Governance: Ensure all activities adhere to relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines while following the University’s policies and procedures.
  • Project Management and Status Reporting: Assist with setting realistic project briefs, monitor performance against project management knowledge areas, and provide regular forecasts and reports to ensure projects are delivered within approved project constraints.

Selection Criteria:

  • Postgraduate qualifications and minimum 5 years project management experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and training working on built form projects or within a facilities management environment.
  • Sound understanding and application of Australian Standards, building codes of Australia and regulatory compliance requirements to minimise risk and maintain safety.
  • Previous experience and the ability to prepare, manage and work within allocated budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply effective time management to ensure that competing demands for resources and services are met.
