Project Manager The Role: The role will be responsible for the implementation of projects funded by British Council or by another client or funding mechanism. The post holder will lead the successful delivery of a range of Cultural Engagement projects (Arts and Education – including TVET/Skills) from start to finish including managing the contract or project plan, managing client or internal stakeholders, successfully achieving reporting and meeting compliance standards. This could be through working within a larger programme or multi country programme on a particular component. Main accountabilities but not limited to the following: Project Management Contributes to development of, owns, and delivers on Project Management Plan Identifies risks in a project or programme and puts together mitigation strategies with SRO Responsible for internal and client, procurement, contracting, compliance and reporting Checks on and reports on compliance Business Development Utilises stakeholder network to support the identification of new business opportunities. Supports the development of proposals for new business opportunities Commercial and Financial Management Ensure sound financial planning, working closely with finance teams to ensure British Council and client financial year plans are up to date. Ensure accurate and timely monthly (re)forecasting is in place, by running regular reports in the SAP system on actuals, monitoring outstanding purchase orders, reviewing commitments, analysing and commenting on reasons for variances to plan and recommending corrective actions. Monitoring monthly finances, including correct expenditure, ensuring the P2P process is being followed and correcting any mis-postings or journals needed. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Undertaking programme-specific data collection as needed. This includes working with colleagues to identify indicators and tools for data collection, quality assuring all data, and undertaking basic analysis. Track, monitor, and identify learning based on the project’s performance Tracking the project/programme’s performance and results including generating and utilizing evidence to improve the effectiveness of the projet/programme Relationship and Stakeholder management Has relationships with delivery partners and stakeholders within country and is able to procure services and contract delivery partners. Holds suppliers to account for delivering against contract. Build strong internal and external relationships and networks Working collaboratively in support of project and organizational objectives, and competently presenting projects to stakeholders Risks and Issues Management Leading on managing project delivery risks Proactively identify challenges and issues and recommend remedial action as appropriate and escalating risks and issues as appropriate Requirements of the role: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, Project Management or any relevant field with a minimum of 5 year’s experience. Strong knowledge of and experience working in Arts, Education, and/or Skills Experience of successfully managing small to medium scale donor-funded projects in Malawi or another country with a similar operating environment Desirable: Project management qualification Practical knowledge and experience of Malawi’s Arts, Education, and/or TVET sector or that of a country with a similar context Experience with client-funded Arts, Education, and/or Employability focused projects Closing Date: Applications will close at 23:59 on 19 December 2025 South Africa Time / 21:59 UK Time ***We request that applications be submitted in English You must have the legal right to work in the country at the time of application.
