JOB DESCRIPTION

Kite is seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a Project Manager - Budgets to work in the exciting area of cancer immunotherapy at the Oceanside viral vector manufacturing site (MVP01). This role will work closely with Project Managers and Head of Business Strategy & Operations but will require effective partnerships with all departments at the site including Supply Chain, MSAT, Automation, F&E, Mfg., and Finance along with select partnerships within Technical Operations and other Global Functions. The position will report to the Associate Director of Business Strategy & Operations.
Business Strategy & Operations Business Strategy & Operations provides various types of support to the site – Project, Resource, and Portfolio Management, Operational Excellence, Business Continuity Management, Risk Management, Knowledge Management, Site Strategy, and Site Communications. As a member of the department, besides having a core area of expertise as a Project Controls Analyst, you will also be able to learn and contribute in other areas to bring benefit to the growing site.
This position will also play a critical role in the financial health, budget management & control of the Kite MVP01 project portfolio, CapEx & OpEx, typically ranging from $50k - $10M. In this role, you will be responsible for acting as the focal point to keep control over the budgeting, projects, forecasting, cash flow, accruals, and capitalization of the assets thru projects completion. Provide governance and reporting to senior management on project status on a monthly basis while tracking, monitoring, and maintaining project financials in compliance with company FP&A policies.
In order to provide project controls manager support for the site projects, the following capabilities are expected:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors and 6+ years of relevant experience in portfolio management (experience in pharma/biotech and/or cell therapy manufacturing is a plus)
  • Masters Degree and 4+ years of relevant experience in portfolio management (experience in pharma/biotech and/or cell therapy manufacturing is a plus)
  • High School Diploma and 11+ years of relevant experience in portfolio management (experience in pharma/biotech and/or cell therapy manufacturing is a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Portfolio management (experience in pharma/biotech and/or cell therapy manufacturing is a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook and visualization tools (e.g. Smartsheet, SpotFire, Tableau, Power BI); MS Project experience a plus
  • Ability to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively, facilitate discussions, influence effectively and develop relationships; problem solve, drive efforts and projects and delegate appropriate tasks to collaborators and follow-up as needed to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, proactive and responsive, highly organized, results-oriented and attentive to detail
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate or Operational Excellence (OE) Experience
    The salary range for this position is: $143,225.00 - $185,350.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Responsibilities
  • Tracks all projects in a standardized manner in order to monitor & control budgets
  • Review the overall financials of projects for accuracy and resolve any discrepancies with the vendor, project manager, accounts payable, finance, and purchasing
  • Collaborate with project managers to achieve a high level of accuracy on project funding requests, forecasting, accruals, and assets capitalization
  • Ensure consistent and accurate management and reporting on projects
  • Analyze variances in cost and schedule performance against project plans & develop recovery plans as needed
  • Provide cost management reports to senior management in a timely manner
  • Identify and support continuous improvement of project delivery practices and implement standard methodologies, procedures, tools and systems for project controls
  • Familiar with cost applications, authority in WBS structure, baseline project budget and change management processes
  • Ability to review and analyze projects, capital program data, and progress reports
  • Collaboration with project managers, engineers, team members, and vendors to communicate the project processes and to provide guidance for capital purchase request entries, budgeting, and coding requirements
  • Generate and distribute various financial status reports such as dashboards, cash flows, cost summaries, and performance metrics to meet company standards
  • Generate and track work orders, change orders, contracts, and purchase orders requests for goods and services specific to the portfolio of projects and ensure correct coding.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the business functions and FP&A ensuring seamless communication and alignment on project financials, budget tracking, monthly CapEx & OpEx accruals and reclassification.
  • Act as the key point of contact for resolving discrepancies, providing financial insight on project performance, and supporting decision-making processes.
  • Responsible for driving improvements by aligning new processes with Portfolio Project Management team.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Kite network.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for site functions regarding all project controls matters
