We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of a portfolio of civil construction projects across Auckland. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for end‑to‑end project performance including safety, quality, programme, people, client, and financial outcomes. Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity  As Project Manager, you will take full ownership of your projects, from planning and estimation through to delivery and close-out. You’ll provide strong leadership to Site Engineers, Supervisors, and crews, while working closely with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure contracts are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. This role requires someone who can operate at both strategic and operational levels, balancing day-to-day delivery with longer-term business objectives. Key responsibilities include:  Project & Contract Delivery * Lead the planning, programming, and delivery of civil projects to agreed cost, quality, and time outcomes * Manage contractual obligations, conditions, and specifications * Implement effective cost control, monitoring, and reporting frameworks * Approve and submit accurate monthly claims and financial reports * Identify, manage, and resolve contractual or commercial risks   Leadership & People Development * Lead, coach, and mentor Site Engineers, Supervisors, and project teams * Support succession planning, performance reviews, and development plans * Foster a high-performing, sustainable, and engaged team culture * Actively support training and capability development initiatives   Client & Stakeholder Management * Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive engagement * Participate in client meetings and presentations * Anticipate issues, manage stakeholder expectations, and resolve conflicts early * Support future opportunities through exceptional service delivery   Resource & Commercial Management * Allocate and manage people, plant, and resources effectively * Maximise utilisation of internal plant and reduce operational costs * Work closely with resource coordinators, subcontractors, and suppliers   Zero Harm, Quality & Risk * Lead by example in driving a strong Zero Harm culture * Ensure health, safety, environmental, and quality systems are embedded and effective * Identify and mitigate project and business risks * Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental requirements   Innovation & Brand * Seek opportunities to improve how work is delivered and embrace innovation * Promote professional standards on site and with clients * Represent the business as a trusted, customer-focused partner Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills * Proven Project Management experience within the civil construction sector * Minimum 3 years’ experience in civil engineering or infrastructure delivery * Strong contract and commercial management capability * Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, and plant * Experience preparing monthly claims and financial reports * The ability to read, understand, and manage complex contract specifications * Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills * A genuine commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality outcomes   Qualifications (Desirable): * Tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in Engineering * Proven contract management responsibility for people, plant, and financial performance   Ko wai mātou | Our Organisation  Want to know more about what it is like to work at Downer?
