Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of experience in sustainable agriculture, or environmental stewardship roles, preferably in Indigenous communities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as Food Security, Environmental Studies, Public Health, Agriculture, Indigenous Studies, or a similar discipline. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Project Management Professional certification, or related experience.
  • Proven experience developing and managing projects, including budgets.
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and reasonable driver’s abstract.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience in food security development or research or thesis work in agricultural sustainability topics.
  • Participation in food system projects.
  • Experience working with and for community-driven initiatives, supporting the development of community driven initiatives.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and working with Elders and community members.
  • Additional training or certifications in areas like Community Food Systems, Agroecology, Sustainable Agriculture, Indigenous Food Sovereignty, or Land-Based Education are considered assets.
  • Project Management Professional certification, or related experience.
  • Proven experience developing and managing projects, including budgets.
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and reasonable driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities
  • Gathers direction from NNTC and communities on food security and sovereignty goals, opportunities within broader food system frameworks, and barriers faced by the Nlaka’pamux and food system production more broadly.
  • Enhances participation in the agriculture economy and food sectors by identifying opportunities for production capacity, boosting local food processing and distribution.
  • Identifies and engages with expertise from agronomy, ecology, economics, supply chains, and policy to coordinate advance goals and opportunities.
  • Identifies environmental, social, financial and regulatory risks and builds resilience into project plans.
  • Leads project planning and design including financial analysis, business case and proposal development, securing and allocating funding, and developing indicators for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Undertakes options and trade-off analysis to support decision-making and risk mitigation strategies to guide effective implementation.
  • Develops project operational plans and budgets.
  • Applies a Project Management approach to food system initiatives including food production and distribution, procurement, and infrastructure development.
  • Oversees and strengthens coordination of emergency food delivery programs with suppliers, partners and transport services.
  • Performs other related duties as required
