Primary objective
The role is responsible for the delivery of trade-based Hydraulics projects including Capital Works, Minor Works and Specific Maintenance
projects and the effective Contract Management of Repairs and Maintenance period contracts for Northern Territory Government
agencies. The role also provides technical advice to Project Delivery teams as required.
Context statement
Allocated projects may vary significantly in their scope, size, and complexity, and are managed concurrently.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage all phases of allocated trade-based project delivery and contract management and provide high level assistance and advice
on project and contract related matters. Driving to project sites and meetings with stakeholders will be required.
2. Recommend, implement, and administer appropriate construction contracts and provide regular reporting of project status.
3. Assess resources/skills needs for the delivery of projects and build and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships.
4. Ensure projects meet the requirements of the Northern Territory (NT) Building Act 1993 , Construction Code and Australian Standards
as applied in the NT.
5. Undertake asset inspections and site visits, compile reports and ensure contractor records are maintained.
6. Carry out all duties in accordance with Departmental Work Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, and environmental
guidelines.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A Tertiary qualification or trade qualification related to the position’s area of specialisation (Hydraulics - Plumbing) or equivalent
experience directly relevant to the position.
2. Hold either a current NT Plumbers and Drainers Advanced Tradesman licence or Journeyman licence (minimum 10 years) issued by
an Australian State or Territory Licensing Board.
3. Strong current technical knowledge and extensive experience in the Construction Code, relevant to the area of specialisation, relating
to the delivery of infrastructure projects in a client focussed, cross-cultural environment.
4. Substantial knowledge and experience in building project and contract management, including assessing and managing human and
financial resources, with broad knowledge and experience in procurement, contract conditions and interpretation of legislation.
5. Knowledge of project reporting and processes in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects, with well-developed IT knowledge
and skills including Microsoft Office-based software, project management tools and mainframe systems.
6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders, understanding factors that may impact on
project outcomes for the relevant agency and ability to ensure functional briefs are understood and match agency requirements.
7. Effective oral and written communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with ability to manage pressure and change, analyse
risk, apply discretion, initiative, confidentiality, and adaptability to meet deadlines.
8. Current NT Drivers licence or ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Building or Project Management.
