Description
ABOUT THE ROLE We're looking for a Software Project Manager who thrives in a high-stakes, deadline-driven environment. In election technology, the calendar is non-negotiable: Election Day does not move, and neither do we. This role sits at the intersection of cross-functional teamwork, technical coordination, and client communication, keeping complex software releases on track from kickoff through post-election closeout. You don't need to be an engineer, but you do need to speak the language well enough to ask the right questions, spot risks early, and keep everyone aligned. If you're the kind of person who builds the process before the chaos hits, and stays calm when it does anyway, this role is for you. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Own and manage project schedules for software releases, using backward planning from fixed election-cycle milestones to keep every work stream on track. * Facilitate planning meetings, standups, and status updates with both internal engineering teams and external client stakeholders, adapting your communication style to your audience. * Coordinate across multiple concurrent work streams, managing dependencies and surfacing blockers before they become problems. * Partner closely with product, engineering, QA, and support teams throughout the full software development cycle, from requirements through testing and release. * Serve as the primary point of coordination during high-visibility moments, including live election events, providing clear and calm communication under pressure. * Build and refine repeatable project management processes that scale across teams and election cycles, not one-off solutions. * Leverage AI tools to streamline reporting, documentation, and project tracking, and actively look for opportunities to bring intelligent automation into your workflows. * Exercise strong escalation judgment: know when to resolve an issue on your own and when to bring in leadership. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR   SKILLS & EXPERIENCE MINDSET & APPROACH * Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adjust your style for technical and non-technical audiences alike. * Hard deadline mentality: you understand that Election Day does not move, and you plan accordingly from day one. * Solid working knowledge of software development lifecycles, release processes, and testing phases. You don't need to write the code, but you need to understand the cycle. * Process-oriented thinker who builds repeatable systems rather than solving the same problem twice. * Proven ability to build and manage detailed project schedules, working backward from fixed deadlines to sequence tasks and milestones. * Cool under pressure, especially during high-visibility, high-stakes events like live elections. * Experience facilitating meetings and driving alignment across both internal teams and external clients. * Collaborative and low-ego: you get things done through people and relationships, not around them. * Comfortable navigating ambiguity, context-switching across multiple projects, and staying organized when priorities shift fast. * Proactively uses AI tools to work smarter and is always looking for the next opportunity to bring efficiency through technology.     BONUS POINTS * Experience in election technology, civic tech, or government-facing software. * Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project management frameworks. * PMP, CAPM, or other project management certification. * Experience using AI-powered PM or productivity tools in a professional setting.   This is an in office role in St Louis, MO. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate relocations at this time.
