Job Description The Project Manager for Universal Creative is responsible for managing the design and construction of themed environments at Universal Studios Hollywood. Projects include retail, restaurants, facades, wayfinding graphics, kiosks, carts and area development items. The Project Manager should be a proactive problem solver who also possesses broad knowledge in facility design management, production, scenic techniques and materials. The Project Manager will be working with a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. Interaction with internal and external clients requires strong & effective communication & interpersonal skills. Responsibilities: For tenant projects, under guidance of Management: Reviews tenant design submissions and manages Universal’s review process. Documents review comments and communicates them back to tenant. Responsible for following up to ensure those comments were addressed. Assist tenant to understand Universal’s standard and practices, building code, and other requirements. Monitors tenant progress and communicates status back to team. Coordinates tenant’s work with operations and management teams. Reviews work to ensure quality of execution. Troubleshoots and develops alternate solutions as required. Ensures work is done per USH policies. For Owner-initiated projects, under guidance of Management: Works with operating groups to define program. Develops the strategy to achieve project on time and on budget. Responsible for driving the project to successful completion. Creates and manages project budgets and schedules. Provides continuous report of project statuses with rolling two-week look ahead “next steps” planning. Under direction of Management, selects and contracts with appropriate outside resources. Reviews change orders for accuracy and cost effectiveness. Generates and manages scopes of work. Leads project team and coordinates its work. Reviews work to ensure quality of design and execution. Troubleshoots and develops alternate solutions as required. Ensures work is done per USH policies. Qualifications Candidate must have 7+ years of experience working in a design/engineering firm dealing both with entertainment design and construction management; also experience dealing with large scale construction projects along or with experience in working in various positions with a general contractor dealing with estimating, budgeting, bidding, field experience dealing with all aspects of projects required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with building and health department requirements. Experience developing scope of work and contracting documentation. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or accredited university, or equivalent experience. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Adobe Acrobat or Blubeam, and possess solid basic computer skills. Strong communication and organization skills. Ability to schedule and track project progress.
