JOB DESCRIPTION


POSITION OVERVIEW:

Working with the “Master Plan” Team and other THP staff and external consultants, this position will play a vital role leading and managing a wide range of activities relating to the planning of project including the selection and oversight of consultants, dealing with authorities having jurisdiction, and other duties related to the Q-site and M-site Redevelopment Projects. Reporting to the Director, Planning and Design the Senior Project Manager will act as the hospital’s key representative to coordinate and manage a multi-disciplinary team of hospital professionals, department stakeholders, architects and consultants in the planning and development of the Design requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, interior design or a health care related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • PMP designation/working towards PMP designation or demonstrated equivalent skill will be an asset
  • Minimum of 5 experience working in a hospital setting or with a hospital as a client
  • Must have experience in a hospital redevelopment project within the last 5 years with a budget greater than $300 million.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in design/planning and specification in hospital context.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with hospital operations and environments;
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills;
  • Comprehensive experience planning, managing and implementing health capital projects, including space and program planning;
  • Ability to read architectural, mechanical, structural and electrical drawings.
  • Experience in preparing and writing reports, specifications and RFP’s.
  • Experience in reviewing, synthesizing, comparing, evaluating and summarizing analysis in a concise manner
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Superior interpersonal and conflict management skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including, at a minimum, Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Experience with CAD and Revit Considered an asset

Responsibilities:

Working with the Director, the incumbent will play a vital role in the planning and design for the Q-site and M-Site Redevelopment Projects including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Development of the Functional Program and Block Schematics
  • Development of the Project Specific Output Specifications
  • Research and investigations in support of planning.
  • Meeting and negotiating with City representatives, stakeholders, in support of securing municipal approvals.
  • Procuring, leading, coordinating and generally working with consultants
  • Presentation of ideas on project process to oversight committees
  • Working with representatives from Infrastructure Ontario and Ministry of Health
  • Review and evaluations of design approaches and proposals
  • Negotiating and working with successful proponent (ProjectCo)
  • Duties will include:

Working with the Director, the incumbent will act as hospital’s representative to coordinate and manage a multi-disciplinary team of hospital professionals, department stakeholders, architects, consultants and government personnel in the development of the upcoming major hospital redevelopment projects;

  • Upholding project vision, design standards and ensuring the project is planned according to project guiding principles
  • Consulting with departments in regards to physical space, operational requirements and other goals and objectives to ensure all work is in accordance with hospital standards, policies and procedures, and project vision and principles;
  • Working in compliance with Infection Control standards, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, ensuring their inclusion in the planning of all aspects of the project
  • Working with Director and team in supporting a holistic framework to ensure coordination, compatibility, consistency and interoperability between hospital functions and departments.
  • Organizes, manages and ensures documentation of all user group planning, sign-off and implementation processes.
  • Monitoring complex scheduling, including micro-schedules to ensure that all phases in the planning of the work proceed thorough and on time.
  • Tracking all ongoing issues including interpretational disputes, asks outside the mandate, identifying gaps that require attention and remediation, etc., and represents the owner as required to negotiate resolution. Brings forward issues to Director where required and in a timely manner.
  • Managing and oversees all consultant activities in the development of contract documents, including: functional program, budgets, project specific output specifications, design briefs, architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural drawings ensuring pre-tender (RFP) completeness and accuracy.
  • Working with a wide variety of user groups, consultants, and contractors to coordinate activities and identify gaps or issues that require attention and remediation.
  • Performs cross-functional duties as assigned and/or requested; performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required
  • Reporting, tracking and maintaining internal documents to identify opportunities, track project timelines and actualize cost impact.
  • Management of contracts and external contractors or consultants.
  • Participation in the preparation of internal and external reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
