Description

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for making precise measurements to determine property boundaries. S/he provides data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth’s surface for engineering, mapmaking, and construction projects. The land surveyor may perform topographic and boundary surveys, prepare plats, flood certificates, and construction stakeout, among others. The land surveyor is required to work closely with the project managers and survey technicians to transition the project seamlessly from one phase to the next. The land surveyor is responsible for the field verification, quality control and quality assurance of the survey data and its representation. The land surveyor is responsible for researching land and survey records and land titles. The land surveyor is responsible for the preparation of the plots, maps, and report deliverables.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • AutoCAD, MicroStation, Carlson software, Trimble (TBC and TGO) and Topcon (Civil Suite, SurvCE) capabilities desirable.
  • ALTA/ACSM Standards.
  • “Minimum standards and procedures for surveys determining topography; field procedures; office procedures, section 18vac 1020382 of the Virginia DPOR regulations, last updated January 1, 2009”.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and municipal regulations, codes, and specifications.
  • Virginia’s Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM).
  • GIS (Geographic Information System) technology.
  • GPS (Global Positioning System) technology.
  • PMI Rules and Personnel Policies/Procedures.
  • PMI DrugFree Workplace Policy.
  • PMI Safety Policies and Procedures.

SKILL IN:

  • Performing mathematical calculations requiring probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of algebra, geometry and trigonometry;
  • Interpreting construction plans and specifications, maps, plats and legal descriptions;
  • Communicating both orally and in writing for effective interface with clients, contractors, staff and management;
  • Directing, supervising, training, and evaluating performance of assigned staff.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A professional land surveyors license is required. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: PMI has offices in different geographical locations. We workshare which may mean temporary assignments to other offices’ projects that, in turn, may require travel. While we make every attempt to balance individuals’ personal schedules, this travel may be unexpected and require weekend stays. This position requires up to 20% travel time outside of area and overnight. The travel may be for work-related duties or training.

  • Physical/Sensory Requirements: o All positions require the ability to work outdoors in extremes of heat, cold and inclement weather, with exposure to dust, dirt, wind, construction activities and materials, and to traverse rough terrain on foot.

Responsibilities
  • Measures distances and angles between points on, above, and below the Earth’s surface.
