Job Summary
The Project Manager (PM) reports to the Managing Director of the Carbon to Metal Coating Institute (C2MCI) and will receive directions from the Scientific Director on assigned projects. The PM will be responsible for monitoring, collecting and analyzing information related C2MCI research policies, project timelines and deliverables. Additionally, the PM will develop, implement, and evaluate equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) programs.
In support of research activities, the PM will manage access and transfer data to the members information communications platforms (SharePoint and data repository), schedule and participate in monthly research meetings, gather and critically evaluate research activities and scientific outputs, draft presentations, reports, and scientific communications. The PM will also review scientific communications (e.g., conference abstracts and manuscripts) to ensure disclosures of unprotected intellectual property (IP) do not occur, will maintain the IP tracking data repository and will coordinate the HQP Research Grant competition. In support of EDI initiatives, the PM will develop, schedule and deliver EDI learning programs and will manage the C2MCI EDI fellowship, and the EDI Research Excellence Award programs.
As a key contributor, the PM provides extensive project management expertise by identifying risks, adapting procedures, making recommendations, and implementing changes for research project and EDI programing improvements to ensure successful execution.
The schedule for this position will occasionally require the incumbent to work outside normal business hours, such as evenings and/or weekends, and occasionally travel overnight to attend conferences and events outside Kingston. For this purpose, adjusted weekly work hours will be required to meet programing needs.
Job Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field or an undergraduate degree coupled with significant related experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant project management experience.
  • Experience conducting research and quantitative/qualitative statistical analysis of data.
  • Knowledge of university procedures, policies, regulations, and administrative systems.
  • An understanding of communications in a large organization.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, layout, and web-based publishing software.
  • Excellent technical/scientific writing skills, and communication skills to facilitate information sharing between research teams and outside organizations.
  • Advanced proficiency with e-learning tools such as Articulate and Storyline.
  • Familiarity with an academic research environment.
  • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to the promotion of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Willingness to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Experience with Adobe software, Video and Audio editing software, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and InDesign and PowerPoint.
  • Self-directed to take initiative, assess and establish priorities, create, and implement programs with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Sound judgment and proactive in identifying and initiating activities that require attention.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, work independently and as a team member. Creativity in communication methods and organizing special events.
  • Computer skills to aid in the research, analysis and presentation of data including word processing, and data analysis and statistical estimation. Technical proficiency or ability to become proficient in the use of multiple software programs (e.g., statistical, numerical).
  • Project management and coordination techniques to achieve results on time. Is outcome and results oriented.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality and handle matters with tact and discretion.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and planning skills to coordinate activities and various projects, work under pressure within, and adjust to, multiple and shifting timelines, and interruptions.
  • Analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills with the ability to solve unexpected problems as they arise, referring only extremely complex problems to supervisor.
