Description

Full job description

At Unita, we build spaces where people love to work, shop, stay and connect – from high-end retail and hospitality, to health and commercial fitouts across Australia. But great spaces don't build themselves. Great teams do.

People have always been at the heart of what we do. From humble beginnings to national growth, our ambition has never outweighed our values. We're fuelled by a shared passion to build better, together.

About the Role

We're looking for a Project Manager to lead the delivery of commercial fitout projects from award through to handover. Coordinating site teams, subcontractors, consultants and clients to keep every project moving safely, on time, on budget, and to a standard we're proud to put our name on.

You'll be the one making the calls day to day: spotting risks early, keeping budgets and programmes under control, and making sure the right people are aligned before small issues become expensive ones.

It's a hands-on role that combines site delivery with commercial and client management, and it comes with real ownership - from the first site walk to a clean, professional handover.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Leading the successful delivery of commercial fitout projects from pre-start through to handover
  • Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Managing project budgets, forecasting, variations and commercial performance
  • Keeping programmes moving by identifying risks early and finding practical solutions
  • Working closely with Site Managers and Contracts Administrators to deliver quality outcomes
  • Ensuring projects meet WHSEQ standards and compliance requirements
  • Maintaining clear communication so everyone knows where the project stands and what's coming next
  • Delivering projects that clients are proud of and teams enjoy being part of

What Great Looks Like

  • Projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality
  • Clients feel informed, supported and confident throughout the project
  • Risks and issues are identified early, with practical solutions implemented before they affect delivery
  • Commercial performance is well managed through accurate forecasting, variation management and budget control
  • Site teams, subcontractors and consultants are aligned and working towards the same outcome
  • Documentation, reporting and compliance are organised, accurate and current
  • Handover is smooth, professional and completed without unnecessary loose ends
  • Projects consistently achieve strong commercial and operational outcomes

Who Thrives in This Role

You're someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity.

You know that successful projects aren't just about programmes and budgets. They're about creating confidence for clients, for site teams and for everyone involved.

You'll probably describe yourself as:

  • Accountable – You own outcomes and follow things through.
  • Commercially aware – You understand the link between delivery decisions, project performance and margin
  • Calm under pressure – You don't panic when plans change. You adapt and keep momentum
  • A clear communicator – You keep people informed, aligned and focused on what matters
  • Collaborative – You bring the right people together to solve problems and make good decisions
  • Naturally aligned to the Unita Way – you take responsibility, work well with others, and look for better ways of doing things

What We're Looking For

  • At least 5+ years of experience delivering commercial fitout or construction projects across a range of sectors
  • Strong project management skills, including programme, budget and stakeholder management
  • Well-developed commercial and contractual understanding
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and subcontractors
  • A relevant construction, project management or trade qualification (preferred)
  • A current driver's licence

What’s next

If this opportunity has your name written all over it, we’d love to hear from you.

Submit your application and tell us a little about why you’d be a great addition to the team.

At Unita, every team member shapes our culture in their own unique way. We value different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, and we’re committed to creating a workplace where people feel safe, respected and able to do their best work. If this role excites you but you don’t tick every box, we still welcome your application.

PS – we’re handling this one in-house, no recruitment agencies please
