    Job Description

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be instrumental in driving and overseeing the successful delivery of diverse projects, ranging in value from under £50k to over £0.5bn. Our projects span across science, research and innovation, engineering, construction, technology, and facility development, and this role will have a construction focus. You will ensure that project objectives are clearly defined and achieved within agreed time, cost, and quality constraints, playing a pivotal role within our robust project and programme governance structure.
You will report directly to senior managers, project boards, and SROs (Senior Responsible Officer’s), while also cascading updates and revised approaches to technical delivery teams. Daily, you’ll ensure project delivery aligns with defined Project Management standards and complies with HMG (His Majesty’s Government) requirements, including the UK Government Functional Standard 002 and the Teal Book.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Project Delivery: Lead construction and infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Project Leadership: Manage project teams and workstreams, applying appropriate methodologies and overseeing transitions between phases.
  • Planning & Scheduling: Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Business Case & Benefits: Translate business cases into actionable plans and support benefit tracking.
  • Resource & Team Management: Secure and manage skilled resources, address performance issues, and support team development.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and internal standards including H&S, CDM, GDPR, and procurement rules.
  • Contract & Cost Management: Oversee supplier contracts, monitor budgets (£0.5m–£10m), and manage financial performance.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Proactively identify and mitigate risks and issues, maintaining accurate registers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reporting & Assurance: Provide regular progress updates, support audits, and maintain robust documentation.
  • Collaboration & Development: Foster cross-functional collaboration and contribute to professional communities and CPD.

We are especially keen to hear from seasoned Project Managers, with a construction background, who can thrive in a dynamic environment, whilst managing multiple projects simultaneously.
