OVERVIEW
The Project Manager, Workplace Violence Prevention, is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives and strategies that reduce the risk of workplace violence at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH). Aligned with MGH’s commitment to zero tolerance for violence, this role will lead the hospital-wide Workplace Violence Prevention Program by coordinating education, policies, risk assessments, data analysis, and response planning.
This position reports to the Manager, Organizational Quality and Patient Safety. The Project Manager will support a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment by working collaboratively with internal stakeholders—including Occupational Health & Safety, Security, Human Resources, Patient Relations, Risk Management, Clinical Leadership and the Joint Health and Safety Committee—and with external regulatory and community partners.
The ideal candidate has exceptional project management skills, deep knowledge of workplace violence prevention frameworks, knowledge of trauma informed practices, and a passion for fostering psychological and physical safety in a complex healthcare environment.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Occupational Health & Safety, Nursing, Criminology, Psychology, or a related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
- Certification in workplace violence prevention (e.g., CPI, AVADE) or healthcare safety (e.g., CHSP, CHPA) is an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive project management experience, with at least 3 years in a hospital or healthcare setting, ideally in roles related to clinical practice, health and safety, risk, or security.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting workplace violence prevention programs, safety initiatives, or related change management.
- Strong understanding of legislation and standards related to workplace violence, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario), Public Hospitals Act, Human Rights Code, and applicable accreditation standards.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct or lead risk assessments and hazard identification and implement mitigation strategies in high-risk environments.
- Knowledge of behavioural alert systems, de-escalation practices, and trauma-informed support models.
- Proven ability to collect, analyze, and report incident data to identify trends and inform decisions.
- Experience developing and delivering education to clinical and non-clinical teams.
- Strong facilitation, consultation, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in project management and data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, RL6).
- Good work and attendance record required.
