Are you looking for a role that combines meaningful work with the chance to explore some of Northern Queensland's most remarkable natural places? As a Project Officer, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the future management of national parks, protected areas and state forests across the region while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of living in Tropical North Queensland. Based flexibly within the Cairns Region, the role offers a mix of office and field-based work, including travel to diverse landscapes and remote locations. From rainforest-covered mountains to rugged outback reserves, you'll gain a unique perspective on the places you help protect while working alongside passionate people who share a commitment to conservation and sustainable land management.
As a Project Officer, you'll play an important role in developing the plans and strategies that guide how protected areas and state forests are managed across Northern Queensland. You'll research and analyse environmental, cultural and social information, assist with preparing management plans, values assessments, maps and reports, and help develop practical planning solutions that support conservation and visitor outcomes. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll engage with rangers, Traditional Owners, government agencies, community groups and other stakeholders to gather information, facilitate discussions and contribute to decision-making processes.
