Description OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY: Under general Engineering supervision, applies experienced judgment to engineering duties. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to perform functions of the job. Assesses systems and operations associated with hypergolic propellants, cryogenics, pneumatics and life support equipment. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Function as Task Conductor of assigned fueling missions and give technical direction to mission team members. TYPICAL DUTIES: Performs Engineering oversight ensuring the Mechanical Integrity Inspections of hazardous systems that identify, document, and resolve system deficiencies are in compliance. Provide studies of program propellants requirements, fluids specifications and equipment capabilities, and analyses to determine effective methods of propellant transfer and storage. Helps to develop estimates for assigned missions which requires detailed analysis (hours and costs) for a particular effort. Responsible for preparation, review and implementation of system designs as assigned by Management. Manages subcontractors throughout project phases to include updating schedules and coordinating assigned work and reporting the status to Management. Performs Engineering oversight and production of drawings and figures utilizing AutoCAD. Prepares Engineering Field Instructions (EFI’s) and as Task Conductor directs SCAPE Technicians to perform operations. May also assume role of Quality Assurances to witness valve position settings, torque values, gauge readings, and system configuration setup. Authors and revises Performance Work Instructions (PWI’s) that document work steps required to perform mission prerequisites. Authors Safety Data Packages, Ground Operations Plans and Compliance documents to submit to Range Safety for assigned fueling missions. Must be able to obtain and maintain base and restricted area access. Knowledge and compliance of these standards and codes: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS welding standards, CGA compressed gas standards, DOT regulations for portable pressure vessels, Military Standards relating to propellants and propellant systems, and SSCMAN 91-710 Range Safety regulations. Provide hands-on support for assembly, refurbishment, modification, and test of portable ground support equipment utilized for transfer of hypergolic fluids, GHe, GN2, GOX, and Xenon high pressure gases. Perform Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) operations and maintain SCAPE certification. Requirements REQUISITE SKILLS: Working knowledge of a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures in propellants, or related area will be applied. Background in design and testing of aerospace ground support systems and facilities desirable. PC skills with experience in MS Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), and AutoCAD. Must have excellent verbal, technical writing and communication skills. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience: Previous engineering assignments, preferred. Exceptional experience with hypergolic propellants, cryogenics, life support equipment, and high pressure gases desirable. Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering or similar discipline desirable or its equivalent in related experience required Note: This position requires eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance and compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
