Property Accountant Overview: Denver based National Storage Affiliates (NYSE: NSA) is a leading self-storage REIT with over 1,000 properties spread across 42 states including Puerto Rico as of September 30, 2023. NSA is one of the largest owners and operators of self-storage properties in the U.S. This is an in-office, Denver-based position. Principal Job Duties: Responsible for supporting the timely and accurate accounting close of the property management company and close of properties managed by the management company Perform various general ledger accounting tasks in a complex, multi-entity environment: Develop, document and post journal entries Cash transactions, Prepaids and accruals, Consolidation and elimination entries Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts Reconcile balance sheet accounts, supported by best-practice-quality documentation Research reconciling items and provide manager with explanations Prepare and review financial statements for individual properties and portfolios of properties Apply critical thinking and Excel skills to analyze large data sets and find insights into financial results. Includes analyzing variances to budgeted and prior period amounts. Assist Property Accounting Manager in preparing recurring and ad hoc management reports Review coding of procurement card transactions for accuracy Reconcile related party accounts Calculate marketing costs and allocations to store Work with affiliates to assist in improving and conforming accounting practices, policies and procedures across the National Storage portfolio Prepare support in response to internal and external audit request Support policies, procedures and internal controls which are in place to protect company assets and ensure financial statement accuracy Assist in system implementations Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use tax filings Navigate state, city and municipal government requirements to obtain business licenses Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Qualifications: 4-year degree in accounting Zero to three years accounting experience Solid general-ledger accounting skills required Working knowledge of internal controls Strong communication skills are mandatory Experience in real-estate or multi-unit-businesses is a plus Both public- and industry-accounting experience is a plus Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Senior Property Accountant Benefits 100% paid medical/vision/dental for employee only plans with up to $2,400 funding towards HSA. 401(K) with employer match.
