A leading legal firm is seeking a Claims Handler to join its well-established and growing Property & Casualty (P&C) team, based in Bristol. This team operates within the wider Insurance Group and represents a significant portion of the UK’s household and commercial property insurers, along with several major insured clients and cover holders. The caseload spans a wide range of property damage claims, including fire, water, construction, impact, and subsidence-related matters.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience handling claims and managing caseloads independently.
  • Experience with litigation and working knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Background in insurance is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems independently, and recognise when to escalate.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational ability.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality, integrity, and a team-oriented approach.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive attitude toward client service.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The position involves managing a caseload of subrogated property recovery claims on behalf of various insurer clients. The successful individual will take claims from initial instruction through to pre-action stages and, where necessary, into litigation. A sound understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) is essential for this role.
This is a varied and engaging opportunity where autonomy is encouraged. Depending on experience and performance, the successful candidate may handle matters ranging in value from £10,000 to multi-million-pound claims. There will also be opportunities to support business development and client-focused initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a substantial caseload of property insurance claims.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality service delivery in line with client expectations and service level agreements.
  • Maintain and report on required management information as per client protocols.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in team processes and client services.
