Description

Position Title: Property Maintenance Enforcement Officer
Department: Planning & Development
Reporting to: Manager, Building Inspection & By-Law Services
Bargaining Unit: IAFF Local 2779 Firefighters

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent.
  • Graduate from a program of contemporary law enforcement, in private policing, corrections, or conservation, etc.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Must maintain an appointment as a Special Constable under the Nova Scotia Minister of Justice Office of the Attorney General, for the enforcement of the Provincial and Municipal Acts and Regulations as well as other legislation, by-laws and standards dealing with existing buildings and properties delegated for enforcement.
  • Valid Driver’s License and class (Nova Scotia Class 5 or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of Municipal Legislation and by- laws is an asset.
  • Criminal Records Check verification is required as a condition of employment. Vulnerable sector check may also be required for those working with vulnerable populations.
  • Medical assessments including but not limited to physical, vision, and hearing tests may be required. The assessments must show the capacity of performing tasks of the classification. This will take place at a later date..

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and administrative abilities.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers, database applications, word processing, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in report writing and customer service.
  • Demonstrated case file management skills.
