Teqniq is searching for a Conservation Technician to work in the public sector.
35 hours per week.
3 month contract.
08:00-16:00

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The candidate will be based at station yard depot, Bovey Tracey, full time hours of 8am to 4pm each day Monday to Friday.
Essential : A full driving licence is required the successful candidate will be provided with a works vehicle.

Responsibilities

To undertake caretaking, property, maintenance and security duties across Authority owned or leased properties and estate.
To support the development of property maintenance plans and carry out repairs, maintenance and minor improvements to DNPA property and associated fixtures and fittings.
To assist and support the Head of Service in the day-to-day operation of the Conservation Works Service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To work safely, ensuring all safety procedures and other controls identified by risk assessment are complied with and incidents reported promptly and appropriately.
2. To maintain and review necessary records relating to Health & Safety regulations, e.g. COSHH, PUWER, Fire, Asbestos, water hygiene, Radon and all relevant risk assessments. Ensure the teams’ first aid provision is maintained.
3. In conjunction with the Head of Service carry out regular inspections of property and sites and develop property maintenance plans.
4. Manage and carry out Portable Appliance Testing and Radon monitoring.
5. To write specifications for works, obtain quotations in accordance with procurement procedures, and place orders for goods and services. Maintain records related to goods and services received.
6. To ensure up to date records for the maintenance of plant and machinery.
7. To carry out inspections and maintain all records relating to car parks on the moor and support maintenance of infrastructure (e.g. data counters; donation boxes and ticket machines. Develop forward plans for future maintenance.
8. To open up at Parke, carry out necessary safety checks in preparation for occupation. Ensure cleaning / caretaking stocks are adequate and stored correctly and manage recycling.
9. To meet with contractors to provide site access and other assistance where necessary, in support of works which have been contracted out.
10. Deal with emergencies that may occur in relation to the Authority’s buildings including supervision of contractors as required. Provide cover for call-outs to attend alarms, security and access issues out of normal working hours. Act as “competent person” for the operation of the alarm system.
11. To undertake pool vehicle checks to ensure they are roadworthy; assist with transfers to garages and carry out cleaning on a regular basis.
12. To carry out repairs, maintenance and minor improvements to DNPA property. This may include decorating, cleaning and unblocking drains, maintaining fixtures and fittings, etc. Undertake monthly maintenance on the bio-mass boiler and the associated heating system at the Old Duchy Hotel, Princetown.
13. Assist with the inspection, construction, erection, maintenance and repair as necessary regarding other DNPA infrastructure including information boards, bus stops, boundary signs and displays.
14. Monitor and address day to day issues with the cleaning contractors for buildings and toilets clearly and quickly, reporting back to Head of Service as necessary.
15. Support the smooth operation of the Authority by setting up meeting rooms, moving furniture and ensuring security measures are intact.
16. Undertake grounds maintenance and gardening works at properties, undertaking grass cutting at other sites as required.
17. Provide support and advice to volunteers, trainees and other work placements to help them contribute to the work of the Conservation Works Team.
18. To work as part of the wider team undertaking a variety of tasks as required.
19. Assist in the monitoring of work of contractors and/or Authority staff on the Authority’s estate and more widely across the National Park, reporting problems in a timely manner.
