If you’re an Engineer or other technical professional working in industry, have you considered transferring your knowledge and expertise to the world of commercial risk management & insurance?
WTW is one of the world’s largest commercial insurance brokers, looking after the risk management & insurance needs of commercial & industrial clients of all types, globally. A critical component of this is Property Risk Engineering.
Our technical experts visit client facilities to help them understand and mitigate their property and business interruption risks. They consider risk features such as process hazards, construction, fire protection, emergency response, hazardous materials, management controls, maintenance, utilities & services, natural catastrophe (flood, windstorm etc.) and business continuity management. They write detailed reports and recommendations that help clients understand and improve their risk, and help our broking colleagues find the best insurance solutions for them.
We are looking for an individual with the right aptitude, enthusiasm and transferrable skills to join our team of risk engineering professionals in GB. If you have had prior exposure to (or experience in) property loss control or risk management, that would be an advantage but we will provide the mentoring, training and support to help you make the transition to this exciting and rewarding new direction.
Experience in the following sectors may be a particular advantage:
- Facilities Management (particularly Leisure & Hospitality or Real Estate)
- Food & Drink Manufacturing
- Utilities (particularly water)
- Fire Protection / Fire Engineering
- Loss Management / Adjusting
This role will be offered on a Remote basis and so we welcome applicants from any locations across the UK.
THE REQUIREMENTS
- Engineer or other technical professional with at least 5 years’ experience working in industry
- Degree level calibre, preferably with a recognised and relevant technical qualification.
- Additional credentials such as membership of a professional institution (engineering or otherwise) would be recognised but is not essential.
- Knowledge &/or experience of one or more of the following:
- Property loss control, risk engineering or risk management
- Fixed fire protection or fire engineering; design, or management of installation &/or maintenance
- Site-level engineering management, especially with multi-discipline responsibilities
- Engineering project management, especially with risk assessment/management responsibilities
- Hazard studies or complex risk assessments relating to property risk / asset protection in an industrial context (not just health & safety risk assessments or fire risk assessments for compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order)
- Investigation &/or management of property and business interruption losses/claims
- Facilities management
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels – from site operatives up to company CEOs.
- Client focused.
- Ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature, which are accurate, concise and show good attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- The ability to support and motivate both less and highly experienced colleagues.
- Basic understanding of AI / GenAI technology and how it can be used to support the risk management process and drive efficiencies.
- Full UK driving licence.
