POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Director, Business Development, the Proposal Development Manager directs, guides, and executes the client communications process, serving as the expert on strategic communication throughout the business development cycle in support of the creation, preparation and delivery of CIBC Mellon’s formal written responses to Request for Proposal’s (RFPs) and a range of other sales-enablement related communication materials. Manages a team of proposal writers, providing guidance and oversight on the preparation and delivery of CIBC Mellon’s responses to existing client and prospect communications requests including, but not limited to, Due Diligence Questionnaires (DDQs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and other client and business development collateral.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in business, communications, English, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in corporate or institutional financial services
  • Business writing capabilities with plain English format
  • Organized, detail-oriented and highly deadline-driven
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to establish priorities appropriately, set and manage multiple schedules, and coordinate numerous projects at once
  • Knowledge of the asset servicing industry
  • Leadership, people management, and organizational skillss
Responsibilities
  • Leads and coaches a team of proposal writers ensuring effective human resources management (recruitment and selection, employee development, performance management, rewards and talent management) to support the achievement of company and department goals
  • Guides and leads the processes and activities associated with the development, preparation and delivery of a range of communications materials with a primary focus on the business development cycle, including RFP’s, RFI’s, DDQ’s, and other collateral
  • Leads the quality check procedures for all DDQs, RFIs, and production quality check of all RFPs to ensure consistency across all proposals, editing and proofreading communications / collateral for accuracy, spelling, grammar, style consistency, tone, flow, comprehension and format. Provides guidance to proposal writers to implement quality check feedback and further develop writing skills.
  • Proactively collaborates with the Content Management Specialist to strategize appropriate new content and updated content management processes.
  • Serves as the lead liaison between the proposal response team and other support functions
  • Ensures seamless collaboration with sales team, relationship management leads, parent-company leads, subject matter experts (SMEs), product managers and marketing managers throughout CIBC Mellon to develop opportunity-specific strategies, identify objectives and develop communication materials reflecting a consistent corporate voice and tone with compelling positioning of CIBC Mellon’s competitive advantages
  • Manage workflow to ensure optimal allocation of team resources
  • Monitor the progress of all proposal activities for adherence to deadlines and quality standards, reviewing and guiding all associated work of the business development communication team including all the development of the processes used, data and information collected and provided outside of the group, and the formal communication materials/RFP responses prepared
  • Gathers relevant data and conducts formal research on prospects and provides this to the RFP sales teams to allow them to develop and prepare formal RFP documentation & responses, having an understanding of client needs as they relate to plan design, investment strategy and technology
  • Analyzes identified issues/problems with prospective clients that are raised during the development of the RFP and based on the specific situation may either resolve internally/collaboratively with sales teams/senior management or may work directly with prospects to diffuse
