ABOUT US
UCL is a world-leading research-intensive university, consistently ranked among the top ten globally, with an annual turnover exceeding £1 billion. Our research and innovation activities continue to grow in scale and complexity, with record levels of funding and impact achieved last year.
Home to more than 50,000 students and 18,000 staff from over 150 countries, UCL is defined by its progressive approach to teaching and research. Our world-class academics, curious students, and dedicated professional staff work together to pursue excellence, challenge boundaries, and solve real-world problems.
Research and Innovation Services (RIS) supports UCL’s academic community across the entire research and innovation lifecycle - from securing funding to delivering meaningful outcomes. The directorate includes four closely connected teams: Award Services, Contract Services, Planning, Insight and Improvement, and Compliance and Assurance. Together, we help ensure that UCL’s diverse and extensive externally funded research portfolio is managed effectively, compliantly, and strategically.
Award Services delivers a range of specialist advice across UCL’s research and innovation portfolio through three key departments: Research Support & Development (Pre-award), the European Research and Innovation Office, and Post-award. We work in close partnership with academic colleagues, professional services teams, external collaborators, and funders to enable high-impact research and innovation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Proposal Development Manager, you will support the development of large-scale EU and international consortia funding proposals, particularly where UCL acts as coordinator or plays a leading role. Working closely with colleagues across Research and Innovation Services (RIS), you will provide expert advice to help shape high-quality, strategically aligned applications.
You will coordinate complex bids, identify new funding opportunities, and guide academics through the proposal process. You’ll also lead workshops, contribute to internal communications, and act as a key link between researchers, professional services, and external funders.
With a strong external focus, you will monitor changes in international funding policy, promote UCL’s research strengths, and help build relationships with global partners and funding bodies. You’ll also play a role in shaping and developing the proposal support service, working closely with the Director of Award Services.
