EDUCATION:
A post-secondary diploma and/or an acceptable combination of education, experience, AND training.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCES:
E1: Significant* experience demonstrating thinking skills and judgement in a work environment.
E2: Significant* experience working as a team.
E3: Significant* experience providing client service in a work environment.
E4: Significant* experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and/or access control applications.
ASSET EXPERIENCES:
AE1: Experience in the use of a firearm.
AE2: Experience in a security and/or law enforcement work environment such as, the protection field, detection field, paramedic, military, policing or other relevant fields related to the position.
AE3: Experience volunteering in non-profit organizations or similar organizations.
AE4: Experience in preparing detailed incident reports, security logs, and daily activity reports to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with organizational standards.
AE5: Experience conducting comprehensive security assessments, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending improvements.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able and willing to work shift work schedules (based on a 35-hour work week) including weekends and night shifts.
Able and willing to work overtime when needed on short notice for special occasions such as medium to large scale demonstration/events.
Able and willing and able to work public holidays (including Canada Day) when there are events within the precinct.
Able and willing to perform physical effort in the form of continuous standing and walking (50-60% of time) while on duty.
Able and willing to carry a firearm.
Physically able to carry approximately 25 lbs of equipment periodically throughout a 12-hour shift on a rotating schedule.
Must be able to achieve and maintain all required certifications including but not limited to tactical defense tools for the role of Protection Officer.
The Protection Officers are armed personnel responsible for ensuring Parliament is safe and accessible so parliamentarians can carry out their legislative duties in a safe and secure environment. Our Protection Officers work on a rotational basis, including evenings, weekends, public holidays and night shifts, 365 days a year. You will receive continuous training and various employment opportunities allowing you to expand your career and support a variety of units within the PPS, from planning and event management, training, intelligence and various operational roles both inside the buildings and on the grounds of Parliament Hill.
