PSYCHIATRIST Reports To: Clinical Director Position Classification: Exempt Work Location: Barboursville Physical Requirements: The employee is regularly required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person, at normal volumes. Specific vision is required by this job include adequate vision to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The employee is to have good manual dexterity. Qualifications: Current West Virginia medical license and certification (or Board Eligibility) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Ability to make quick and accurate psychiatric assessments and provide effective treatment using evidence-based psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. High level of comfort consulting with primary care medical providers. Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected mental and behavioral conditions. Ability to train and teach effective behavioral health interventions and the primary behavioral health model to medical practitioners and other behavioral health providers. Ability to work effectively as a team, interfacing with patients, primary care providers, consulting psychiatrist and mental health specialists, as well as with administrative and support staff. Ability to exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, and to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent and equitable manner. Must be able to interpret medical literature and put into practice the most current professional guidelines and perform at and above the standard of care. Basic Function: Assess and treat a wide variety of mental illness in the adult outpatient setting. Treatment is primarily with medication management but also includes psychotherapy and referral as appropriate. There is significant collaboration with social workers, psychotherapists, nursing staff, and other primary care providers within FamilyCare as well as inpatient and outpatient mental health providers in the community. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assist primary health care providers in recognizing and treating psychiatric illness using up-to-date evidence-based psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. 2. Assess the clinical status of patients referred by primary care providers through consultation. 3. Collaborate with Psychiatry Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses on staff. 4. Work with primary care provider to refer to outside emergency or mental health facilities as appropriate. 5. Assist in the detection of "at risk" patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration. 6. Assist in preventing relapse or morbidity in conditions that tend to recur over time. 7. Evaluate patient care plans with primary care team. 8. Complete all appropriate documentation in a timely manner according to FamilyCare policy. 9. Teach patients, families and staff care, prevention and treatment enhancement techniques. 10. Monitor the site's behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services and making recommendations for improvement. 11. Attend and participate in meetings and Quality Improvement activities as required. 12. Serve as a member of site committees as requested. 13. Participate in evaluation of peers and support staff.
