The Department of Transportation & Infrastructure is seeking two qualified and skilled candidate to fill the Provincial Instrument Person positions within the Construction Support Services. Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have and maintain a valid class 5.0 driver’s licence.
  • Must be able to work for extended hours and periods; oftentimes weekends and overnights.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit and have the ability to lift and carry up to 20Kg.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor, rough terrain, environment in both winter and summer.
  • Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground (ATV), water (small boats), and air transportation (small planes and helicopters).
  • Must be able to work in hazardous conditions (near and around construction equipment, traffic, and airside of airports).

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma (Municipal / Geomatics) or completion of Department Level 2 training courses. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in surveying.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software package (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

Desired:

  • Ability to coach and mentor.

Duties:
The Provincial Instrument Person reports to the Senior Provincial Geomatics Technologist (SPGT) and receives day-to-day direction from the Provincial Survey Crew Chief (PSCC). The Provincial Instrument Person assists in performing advanced construction and preliminary surveys in support of the Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MIT) Capital Delivery Program (CDP). The position also performs as a survey resource to emergent events for various Divisions and Branches on a province wide basis.
Construction Support Services is a branch of the Engineering and Operations area of Infrastructure, that provides specialized internal services and support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of the construction, maintenance and preservation programs in accordance with consistent standards, specifications and procedures.
