POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, is responsible for processing tax and assessment appeals and administering various tax rebate/deferral programs. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates and controls the timely processing of tax adjustments required as a result of tax reductions and Land Use Permit changes. Processes assessment appeal data and balances to Provincial records. Administers tax rebate/deferral programs and ensures compliance with Provincial legislation and regulations issued there under. Processes severances/consolidations and balances to Provincial records. Performs account adjustments, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Prepares schedules and statistical reports as required. Liaises with Provincial and internal departments, tax agents, property taxpayers, Municipal Property Assessment Corporation staff and other outside bodies as required. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Secondary school graduation; and Successful completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program; or Post-secondary diploma with courses in accounting and/or business math; or Equivalent combination of education and experience Previous Provincial Land Tax experience is required Skills/Abilities: Must have proficient written/oral communication skills (English) Must be able to converse with the public in a courteous and tactful manner Must be at an intermediate skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software Must have an understanding of the practical application, terminology and theory of basic accounting principles Assets: Proficiency in French written/oral language skills at an advanced level, as per Ontario Public Service Standard CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) General Information: As an equal opportunity employer, the City of Thunder Bay encourages applications from Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority groups, women and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
