Nepean Hospital is an important referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. It serves the local areas of Penrith, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains (comprising a population of 300,000 and growing) and accepts patients from as far as Lithgow and Bathurst flown in by helicopter retrieval services. Nepean Hospital is the Regional Trauma Centre for these areas. ICU positions are accredited with the CICM (ANZ), RACP, ANZCA, and ACEM for Intensive Care Training. Fellows are encouraged to prepare for appropriate exams.
The role of the Intensive Care Unit is to provide Intensive Care services to the community as well as providing emergency response to all wards within the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Making a timely, structured and accurate assessment of a comprehensive range of life-threatening problems in a critically ill patient and apply life supporting therapy.
  • This position is for senior intensive care trainees who have a special interest in research, education, echocardiography or other significant ICU non-clinical portfolios.
  • Have opportunity to gain academic oriented experience and develop research skills and educational techniques.
  • Take a leadership role within a busy ICU, overseeing change management.
  • Teach other clinical staff, to ensure an optimal learning environment, promote growth and development of others, and to develop skills in teaching.
  • Participate in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening or night shifts across a seven day roster. Roster will be no less than 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical.
