Responsibilities

The purpose of the position is to provide high level preventative, screening, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services across general and specialised cardiac medical problems. The Provisional Fellow is expected to be involved in training of coronary intervention and offers an opportunity for the fellow to become involved in the structural heart disease program. The coronary intervention program involves simple and complex coronary angioplasty, interventions from the radial and femoral approach, management of torturous and calcified lesions, bifurcation lesions, chronic total occlusions and the use of rotational artherectomy, cutting balloon and proximal and distal protection devices.
The unit has a specific interest in the management of acute myocardial infarction and has established the concept of a regional heart attack centre where patients with AMI are triaged directly from the ambulance to the cardiac catheter
laboratory.
