Responsibilities

Provide clinical services in the Cardiology Cathlab, including assisting and performing with coronary angiography / interventions and facilitating patient preparation for relevant procedures (consents, liaising with referral teams, post-procedure care etc.)
Provide inpatient care for cardiology patients including on-call and weekend ward rounds as rostered.
Depending on experience, complete rotations through clinical, invasive and non-invasive diagnostic terms.
Take part and perform clinical audit and research projects.
Take part in district-wide acute myocardial infarction roster as Interventional Fellow alongside Consultant on call as required.

The Cardiology Department serves a large population and has 5 Staff Specialists and 5 Visiting Medical Officers, offers comprehensive inpatient investigations including transthoracic and transthoesophageal echocardiogram, stress testing, pacing clinic, cardiac catheter laboratory equipped for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Permanent Pacemaker Implantation.

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Successful completion of clinical exam of the RACP and eligible to commence advanced training OR overseas training assessed as partially or substantively comparable to FRACP (Cardiology).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills.
  • Experience and willingness to teach and support Junior Medical staff.
  • Interest in interventional cardiology and/or clinical research and prior experience in the cardiac catheter laboratory.
