TITLE: Personal Support Worker
POSITION STATUS: Part Time – Permanent (Non-Union)
SCHEDULE: No set hours per week
REPORTS TO: Program Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a provincial leader in the Deaf community. Our mission is to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve. We are a highly motivated, collaborative team on a mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. We take a person centred approach that aims to support and make a positive difference in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Personal Support Worker will provide a range of support to deaf, hard of hearing, deafened, and/or deafblind clients both within tenants’ supportive living environment and within the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in Human Services related field or experience working in a residential setting with Consumers with developmental disabilities, mental health needs and/or dual diagnosis
  • Knowledge and experience working within the Deaf community and fluency in ASL
  • Knowledge and experience working with clinical professionals as it relates to mental health and/or behavioural needs an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership, creative problem solving abilities; good judgement and critical thinker
  • Excellent communication, literacy and interpersonal skills
  • Innovation, initiative and integrity
  • Demonstrated experience in computer literacy (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Valid Ontario Full G Driver’s License and clean driving record an asset
  • French language/ LSQ an asset

Responsibilities
  • Assist clients with issues or required support with housing, including communication with landlords or Housing Authority
  • Promotes and encourages independent living through life skills training, social skills development and client goal development
  • Prepares and maintains ongoing Individual Support Plans (ISPs) as well as Person Direct Plans (PDPs), and maintain these Plans in consultation with each clients their family/significant other, and Program Manager where applicable
  • Establishes a good working rapport with client and their families/significant others
  • Provides crisis management whenever there is a client in crisis
  • Educates clients we support on positive healthy living and assists them with the maintenance of their good health
  • Supports clients at medical appointments or other appointments as necessary, including transportation, scheduling, etc.
  • Ensures each client in their case load has an annual medical exam, dental appointment, etc
  • Ensure the mental and physical wellbeing of each client is being met
