Description
Manages patient communication workflows for outpatient medical staff utilizing and optimizing our electronic health record (EHR) Determines urgency and priority of patient’s psychiatric needs with medical staff oversight which may include, but limited to, scheduling urgent behavioral health services to expedite care or assist with coordinating emergent hospital transport for acute psychiatric care. Coordinates patient communications when medical provider is not available, ensuring telephone calls are screened appropriately and medical provider receives necessary information for timely patient disposition. Retrieves patient voicemail messages and EHR messages timely and efficiently preparing medication refill requests for prescriber approval and responds to patient calls as directed by prescriber. Assists with obtaining insurance prior authorizations with patient medications and tracks approvals/denials with insurance plans. Helps to identify workflow issues and problem solves concerns regarding patient issues following departmental procedures and guidelines. Advocates for patients, as appropriate and assists with resolving patients’ complaints with medical and management staff. Obtains relevant medical vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and weight; may initiate screening tools and input pertinent clinical information into electronic health record. Assists medical staff with clinical procedures and/or additional tests ordered specific to the department. May advise patient of preparation required to complete medical orders following departmental protocols; keeps patient informed of unforeseen delays and other relevant information. Provides clerical/office support as necessary. Maintains medical supplies and inventory. Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested by manager. Ability to read write and communicate in English. Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess one of the following qualifications: a) (CMA) – Currently a Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) b) (LPN) - Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Minimum of two years prior experience in a clinical setting Preferred Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, computer, and organizational skills required
