Employment Status: Full time Shift: Night (United States of America) Facility: 2017 S Jefferson St - Roanoke Requisition Number: R156098 Psychiatric Technician (Open) How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare: CARILION PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY PROGRAM Join our dedicated Emergency Psychiatry team, where compassion meets purpose. As a Psychiatric Technician, you’ll play a vital role supporting individuals in crisis within the Emergency Department, psychiatry consult service, and inpatient behavioral health units. This role is ideal for those who thrive in fast-paced environments, value teamwork, and are passionate about making a difference one patient at a time. Provide hands-on care, observation, and emotional support for patients in behavioral health crisis. Assist with daily living activities, safety checks, and delegated nursing tasks under RN supervision. Use trauma-informed communication and de-escalation techniques to promote a calm, therapeutic environment. Collaborate with nurses, providers, and security staff during behavioral emergencies as directed. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Carilion policy and professional standards. Contribute to quality and safety initiatives that improve the patient experience and team workflow. What We Require: Education: High school graduate or GED required. Experience: N/A Licensure, certification, and/or registration: De-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward. Must be able to obtain AHA BLS-HCP. Valid Virginia State Drivers license required in the NRV to transport patients. Other Minimum Qualifications: Requires experience with or the ability for managing patients with explosive potential and/or escalating situations. Requires ability to function with minimum supervision, recognizing the need for direction and assistance in situations beyond his/her scope of capabilities. Requires ability to learn and participate as a team member.
