Description

PSYCHIATRIST – MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR OLDER ADULTS – INPATIENT

  • Full-time or part-time available
It is an exciting time for healthcare in New Zealand and for Older Adults’s Mental Health Services.
We are looking for Consultant Psychiatrists interested in Old Age Psychiatry to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary inpatient team. We seek enthusiastic, motivated people committed to improving care.
Te Whatu Ora – Waitematā serves the North and West coasts of Auckland City and is one of the largest catchments in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Our teams work with an ethnically diverse community, including Māori, Pacific, and Asian communities in urban and rural settings (the North Shore, Rodney District and West Auckland).
Kingsley Mortimer Unit (Ward 12) is a 19-bed inpatient unit on the North Shore Hospital site that provides inpatient assessment and treatment for the Waitematā district for Older Adults with Mental Health issues.

Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) provides community and inpatient services for people experiencing serious mental health issues. We provide assessment, treatment and support to:

  • People with severe mental disorders aged 65 or older
  • People of any age with primary dementia and serious behavioural and/or psychological symptoms.
  • People with pre-existing severe mental health disorders who would be better cared for by MHSOA, either because of significant medical co-morbidities or frailty

Teaching and supervising psychiatry trainees, house officers, and medical students can be part of your work. We are an accredited training service and have rotating pre-examination and advanced trainees in psychiatry of old age
Clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team is a core function of our consultant psychiatrists’ work, and the MHSOA service operates a clinical governance model to ensure close involvement of clinicians in service development, service planning and quality improvement initiatives.
