Qualifications:
Be a member of the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec or Masters in a relevant field

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in conducting psychological assessments with children and adolescents
  • Understanding the cognitive and social-emotional characteristics of learners with various exceptionalities
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams in elementary and high schools
  • Ability to assist the school staff in implementing adaptations and modifications suited to individual student needs
  • Willingness to participate in the development of action plans and interventions for students with special needs
  • Familiarity with responses to critical incidents/traumatic events
  • Ability to work with individuals/groups
  • Ability to lead in-service sessions for school staff
  • Evidence of continuous professional growth
  • Knowledge of the Québec system of education (e.g., educational practices, curriculum issues)
  • Bilingual (French and English)
Responsibilities
  • Ability to plan and conduct evaluations of the students’ psychological and cognitive functioning, including students with exceptionalities or social maladjustments;
  • Ability to help teachers determine the nature of the problem and provide them with advice and support;
  • Ability to work with students, groups of students or parents, help them identify difficulties and support them in exploring solutions;
  • Ability to help defuse crisis or emergency situations and to propose solutions;
  • Ability to collaborate as an active member of a multi-disciplinary school resource team;
  • Ability to prepare and update files according to the standards associated with the practice of the profession and the rules defined by the school board; he or she prepares progress notes or evaluation, end-of-process and follow-up reports on his or her interventions.
