  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field (graduate coursework or research experience preferred).
  • Prior experience tutoring or teaching advanced biology to middle or high school students.
  • Familiarity with the USABO or similar biology competitions strongly preferred.
  • Strong foundation in core biology topics and scientific thinking.
  • Ability to break down complex material into digestible, student-friendly explanations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Passion for mentoring students and helping them achieve ambitious academic goals.
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable part-time Biology Olympiad Tutor to prepare high-achieving students for success in the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) and similar competitions. This flexible, part-time role involves guiding students through complex biological concepts, enhancing their problem-solving skills, and helping them develop the depth of understanding required to excel in competitive settings. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and deliver rigorous, engaging lessons aligned with the USABO curriculum and other biology competition standards.
  • Provide clear explanations and in-depth coverage of topics such as cell biology, genetics, physiology, ecology, and molecular biology.
  • Assign and review practice problems and exams to build test-taking strategies and reinforce content mastery.
  • Offer personalized feedback and identify areas for improvement in students’ understanding and performance.
  • Foster an encouraging and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
  • Track student progress and communicate updates with students and parents as needed.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate a variety of learning styles and levels of prior knowledge.
