What You'll Be Doing: Under general direction of the Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Supervisor, this position is responsible for the direct supervision of the lifeguard staff in addition to daily administrative tasks. The general safety and conduct of the pool area and patrons using the pool is a primary responsibility. Assists with instruction of programs and performs daily aquatics maintenance as directed. Maintain proficiency of all Lifeguard skills by attending and participating in 4 hours of monthly in-service trainings. Participate in the planning and presenting at monthly in-service Serve as the on-deck supervisor Administrative responsibilities to include StarGuard Elite tracking (rescue reports, in-service attendance, and audit tracking) Monitor slide inspection reports, chemical records, and rotation tracking. Assist the Aquatics Specialist with swim lesson program including printing rosters, transferring of enrollments, and daily program operations. Be able to demonstrate and perform proficient Lifeguarding, CPR and basic first aid skills per StarGuard ELITE and American Health and Safety Institute standards. Supervise the Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor staff and directly oversee all Lifeguard duties. Implement the Aquatic Department’s Emergency Action Plan when needed and acts as first responder and point of contact/support for Lifeguard Staff. Direct and perform patron surveillance and always ensure patron safety in and around the pool area. Enforces District guidelines, policies, and pool rules in Aquatic area to ensure employee and public safety. Communicate openly and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, staff, participants, parent, volunteers, and other community members. Lead staff by example; remains calm and collected in stressful situations with staff, patrons and in the event of an emergency. Provide guidance of and assures conformance with policies and procedures. Demonstrate advanced swimming skills with the ability to carry out water rescues. Direct and perform general pool maintenance and cleaning duties, including chemical testing, balancing, and monitoring the pump room area. Inspect facility for cleanliness; assists with daily pool, locker room and deck cleaning. Perform pump room maintenance such as backwashing, draining pools, adding dry chemicals to pools if needed. Notify supervisor if material (i.e. cleaners, first aid supplies, etc.) are needed. Identify and/or recommend maintenance, improvement, or repair of facility equipment, property, and operational procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility. Take proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to help prevent accidents. Requirements Required Qualifications: Candidates over 18 must pass a background check prior to employment. 1 year working experience as a Lifeguard 6 months experience managing and/or leading subordinate staff Current lifeguard certification from StarGuard ELITE, American Red Cross, or Elias and Associates. 18 years of age Lifeguarding/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or similar certification through a nationally accredited organization Preferred Qualifications: AFO or CPO certification or the ability to receive within 90 days.
