Warren-Newport Public Library is seeking a dedicated and professional Security Monitor to join our team. This part-time, non-exempt position averages 10.5 hours weekly. The starting hourly rate is $18.02-$20.73. We are looking for someone who can work the following hours: Weeknights: Mondays and Thursdays, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Weekends: Every 3rd weekend (never both days in the same weekend): Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Sundays are open from Labor Day to Memorial Day only) Notes: Weekend shifts alternate (e.g., one weekend may be Saturday, the next Sunday, the following weekend fully off). Sunday hours are paid at time and a half. As a Security Monitor you'll: Proactively monitor library facilities and grounds. Enforce the library's behavior policy. Engage with difficult or irate youth and adult patrons and de-escalate situations. Remove banned patrons from premises by non-physically confrontational means. Navigate and monitor video surveillance system. Communicate with appropriate stakeholders (staff, managers, police, etc.) regarding any problems or potential problems. Document and communicate serious or repeat violations of behavior policy by individuals and issues violation tickets, including suspensions and bans. Actively respond to incidents, fights, or other issues in the library which threaten the safety of patrons or staff. Surveil facilities for unauthorized persons and if needed, redirect or escort from the building. Complete proper documentation for incident reports. Close and secure the library building. Assists facilities staff with meeting room setups. Collects books from the outside book drop. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. Customer service and/or security background preferred. Experience working with a diverse population, preferably in the public sector. Bilingual (Spanish) skills highly preferred but not required. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and analyze and resolve sensitive public relation matters with limited supervision. Requires a full range of body motion including standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods of time.
