JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Assistant is responsible for supporting students and faculty with equipment and facilities in the Film/Video/Sound area labs. This includes ensuring the labs and classrooms are maintained as clean and safe environments. This is a hands-position that involves assisting with audiovisual installations, instructing users on proper equipment use, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting, and working collaboratively with colleagues on day-to-day operations.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency with Apple computers and operating systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of software such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, and audio software such as Pro Tools, and Reaper
  • Experience with video and sound installations, including file encoding, synchronized playback, and the physical installation and connection of projectors, monitors, media players, amps, speakers, etc.
  • Experience assisting individuals with varying levels of technical abilities.
  • Ability and aptitude for hands-on problem-solving to help students achieve their project goals using existing equipment and software.
  • Ability and willingness to physically install work, e.g. lifting, climbing ladders, and basic hardware tools such as drills.
  • Needs to be flexible and willing to learn and adapt to the existing educational environment and its needs and schedule.
  • Excellent oral and written skills, communication skills, collegial, capacity to work both independently and collectively, and comfortable working in a busy environment.
  • Strong ability to work with a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty with a high degree of cultural competency.

EDUCATION

  • BA/BFA in visual arts or related field preferred
    Pay rate - $26.01 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Installation support

o Provide hands-on technical assistance and advice on student projects, such as senior presentations, student shows, and the End of Year Show.

  • Equipment and technical support

o Assist students and faculty with the use of equipment and facilities. Providing general technical support and guidance on equipment and processes for relevant courses as needed.
o Check equipment in and out to students, including providing technical support to students and answering questions on the correct care and operation of equipment.

o Work cooperatively with head technician and technical staff to ensure adequate coverage of the labs.

  • Maintenance and inventory support

o Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting for all equipment.

o Conduct inventory management and ensure equipment is in good working condition.

  • Lab and classroom maintenance

o Assist with the safe and clean operation of the technical facilities and classrooms, which includes the computer labs and screening room as needed.
o Work cooperatively with co-workers to ensure maintenance is conducted in a timely manner.
