Heart of the Village is a community enterprise in Stoke St Gregory on the Somerset Levels. The Royal Oak pub is part of that enterprise and a true community hub

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Someone who has a true heart for hospitality within a rural village setting, eager to put their stamp on a traditional village pub.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES REQUIRED

  • Previous successful experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Trustworthy and well-presented
  • The ability and character to lead and motivate varied personalities
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours.

Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE

To deliver and maintain a financially and socially successful community pub, while continuing the reciprocal relationship with the village shop that is also part of HOTV.
To work in conjunction with, and supported by, the Management Committee of the venture in order to deliver benefit to the community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all customers.
  • Interacting with customers (including serving food and drink) and ensuring that high standards of customer service are maintained.
  • Working with the village shop manager to deliver a broad customer offering.
  • Taking responsibility for pub safety and security.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in the pub, kitchen, and other areas.
  • Managing the pub cellar, maintain and cleaning the cellar lines. Ensuring stock rotation.
  • Organising and advertising entertainment (such as live music events, comedy nights, quizzes and karaoke competitions)
  • Collecting and acting on customer feedback to improve the overall running of the venue.
  • Undertaking regular stock checks, placing orders with suppliers and restocking (which involves physical work)
  • Providing basic facilities management to the entire HOTV premises located at the Royal Oak working in co-operation with the Shop manager.
  • Recruiting, training and managing staff and volunteers including rota and holiday management
  • Working closely with the Volunteer Lead to fill any gaps in the rota.
  • Ensuring good financial record keeping working with established bookkeeping procedures.
  • Monitoring profitability and performance in conjunction your line manager.
  • Maintaining positive relations with members of the local community, the police and licensing authorities.
