PUBLIC EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Full Time Permanent (37.5 hrs./week)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Public Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of Société Alzheimer Society education programs and awareness initiatives as well as assisting in the delivery of health promotion programs within the assigned territory. Reporting directly to the Education and Community Programs Manager, the Public Education Coordinator is expected to deliver essential education and awareness programs and provide up to date knowledge on dementia and care practices to clients, staff, health service providers, community service providers, students, volunteers, and the general public.

EDUCATION:

  • Post secondary degree/diploma in the fields of gerontology, health promotion, education, communications, social sciences, or other related health field. Other disciplines may be considered given appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Certificate in adult education considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingualism (English & French) is required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in the health and/or social service sectors
  • Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Exceptional presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
  • Team oriented and ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines in an efficient manner
  • Ability to take initiative and be resourceful.
  • Proficiency in technology (e.g.: Microsoft office suite, Power Point, and statistical data bases)
  • Expertise and experience in cultural sensitivity and diversity

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to provide a police record check (vulnerable sector)
  • Must possess a valid drivers license, good driving record, access to a vehicle, and auto insurance.
  • Travel across Chapter District as required.
  • Must be able to provide a negative 2-step TB Test
  • Flexible Schedule: some evenings and weekends may be required.

Formation :

  • Baccalauréat ou diplôme d’études postsecondaires dans le domaine de la gérontologie, de la promotion de la santé, de l’éducation, des communications, des sciences sociales ou dans un autre domaine connexe lié à la santé. D’autres disciplines peuvent être envisagées selon la formation et l’expérience de la personne.
  • Un certificat dans le domaine de l’éducation des adultes est considéré comme un atout.

Expérience :

  • Faire de la sensibilisation et de l’éducation sur la maladie d’Alzheimer et les démences connexes et offrir les programmes et services de la Société Alzheimer.
  • Fournir des ressources essentielles aux personnes vivant avec une démence et à leurs partenaires de soins et les expliquer.
  • Coordonner et offrir des programmes d’éducation de base, des activités de formation et des kiosques promotionnels, dans le territoire qui lui est confié et dans les environs.
  • Cerner les besoins en matière d’éducation au sein de l’organisme pour les employés, les clients et les bénévoles, ainsi que dans la communauté élargie.
  • Évaluer les programmes de formation et d’éducation pour s’assurer que les normes de qualité sont respectées.
  • Contribuer aux communications externes, au besoin (bulletins, articles de journaux, etc.).
  • Maintenir une base de données statistiques et préparer des rapports statistiques mensuels.
  • Siéger à des comités internes et externes, au besoin.
  • Établir, développer ou renforcer des partenariats entre les organismes de soutien communautaires.
  • Aider à organiser des activités de collecte de fonds et des événements promotionnels au besoin.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote awareness and education of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias as well as programs and services offered by Société Alzheimer Society
  • Must be able to articulate and provide essential resources for those living the dementia journey and their care partners
  • Coordinate and deliver core education programs, training events and promotional booths in and around assigned territory
  • Identify education needs within the organization for staff, clients, and volunteers, and also within the community at large
  • Evaluate training and education programs to ensure quality standards are achieved
  • Contribute to external communications as required (newsletters, newspaper articles etc.)
  • Maintain a database of statistical information and prepare monthly statistical reports
  • Participate on internal and external committees as required
  • Identify, develop and/or strengthen partnerships between community support agencies
  • Assist with fundraising initiatives and promotional events as required

OTHER DUTIES

  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
