Description Roots Public Health Communications and Research Fellowship Department: Admin Status: Full-time Reports to: Chief of Staff Schedule: Full Time Budgeted to: Admin Location: Hybrid Roots is seeking a Public Health Communications and Research Fellow to broaden the scope and deepen the impact of the People’s Health Briefing, propelling the program into its second phase of broader outreach and enhanced engagement. This fellowship will enable Roots to expand topics, enhance delivery platforms, and deepen community engagement, ensuring that more individuals have timely access to the vital health information and resources they need. Public Health Communications and Research Fellowship Responsibilities: ? Project Management and Direction Support: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the health briefing program, ensuring that timelines are met and objectives are achieved efficiently. This includes directing program topics, researching content, coordinating with industry and community leaders for interviews and producing the Health Briefing program. ? Strategic Development and Expansion: Develop strategies to broaden the program’s scope, including identifying new topics, audiences, and platforms to enhance reach and impact. Lead efforts to innovate and adapt content delivery to meet the evolving needs of the community. ? Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with community leaders, healthcare professionals, and potential partners to expand the program’s influence and gather support. Act as the primary liaison for program stakeholders to foster collaboration and secure resources. ? Analytics and Reporting: Monitor the effectiveness of the health briefing using data analytics tools. Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders that highlight successes, challenges, and the value of the program to the organization’s mission. ? Brand Enhancement and Public Relations: Use the health briefing as a platform to enhance the organization’s branding and public image. Strategically position the briefing in public forums, social media, and networking events to elevate the organization's profile. ? Research: Collaborate with Clinical staff and Directors to assist with research initiatives evaluation projects, and conduct literature reviews. Contribute to the design, implementation, and dissemination of program evaluations and quality improvement activities. Assist in developing professional development and training materials for clinical and program staff. Translate research findings and evaluation results into accessible formats. Help build and maintain partnerships with academic institutions, public health agencies, and other research entities to advance the organization’s mission and contribute to broader public health knowledge. ? Data Collection & Management: Administer surveys, conduct key informant interviews, co-facilitate focus groups, and enter data into research databases. ? Data Analysis: Assist in analyzing and interpreting data using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata) and other analytical tools. ? Reporting: Contribute to reports, presentations, manuscripts, and grant proposals summarizing research findings. ? Administrative Support: Schedule team meetings, interviews, and focus groups; maintain research materials; and manage project correspondence. ? Quality Control: Ensure accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of data by following established protocols and procedures. ? Fellowship Goals, Impact, and Outcomes: ? Expanded viewership of PHB (total number of users) ? Diversify viewership/audience of outward-facing public health materials (end users, healthcare leaders/professionals, funders, government leaders, etc.) ? Expand promotion and reach of Pillars at Roots Community Health: ? Medical and Behavioral Health Services ? Health Navigation and Care Management ? Workforce Enterprises and Training ? Research, Evaluation, Technical Assistance and Training ? Street Outreach and Transition Services ? Community Capacity Building ? Community Outreach and Benefits Enrollment ? Support to elevate the stature of Roots Community Health and its sponsors as thought leaders in healthcare and public health in marginalized communities. Competencies: ? Bachelor’s Degree in related fields preferred. ? Excellent verbal and written communication skills. ? Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team. ? Familiarity with health disparities issues and needs. ? Experience working in a non-profit organization, or a community clinic preferred. ? Interest/proficiency in working on issues affecting urban underserved, impoverished and marginalized communities of color. Qualifications: ? Expertise in public health. ? Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Facilitate effective storytelling. ? Strong research abilities on public health topics relevant to Roots’ mission. ? Strong organizational and analytical skills. ? Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata) and Microsoft Office Suite. ? Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. ? Commitment to maintaining research standards, ethics, and protocols.
