The DeKalb County Health Department is seeking a Public Health Nurse to work part time (up to 3 days, 22.5 hours per week). Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Public Health Nurse provides direct patient care within various public health programs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • One year experience in health care or community services setting required.
  • Previous experience in public health (especially in women’s health) preferred.
  • Ability to be organized, flexible, problem solve and be part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and employees.
  • May require some early evening hours.

Responsibilities
  • Works in the Family Planning program, assisting in exams as well as testing and treating infections, pregnancy testing, counseling and education, assisting with birth control choices including long-acting methods.
  • Assists with communicable disease investigations and reporting.
  • Provides nursing professional services to various programs as needed in the Community Health and Prevention Division.
