THE ROLE AMD is seeking a Public Relations Manager to lead and execute PR activities in Japan across our full product portfolio, including Data Center, Client, Graphics, and Embedded. This role is responsible for driving in-market communications strategy and execution, including product launches, review programs, and ongoing media engagement. You will work closely with a local PR agency while maintaining direct relationships with key Japanese media and influencers. Reporting to the Asia Pacific & Japan Communications Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping AMD’s reputation in Japan—ensuring messaging is locally relevant, culturally appropriate, and aligned with global priorities. You will also partner closely with local sales, marketing, and regional/global communications teams to support events, executive visibility, and integrated campaigns. THE PERSON: You are a proactive, detail-oriented PR professional with a strong understanding of the Japanese media landscape and a passion for technology, including AI, data center, PC, and gaming. You are confident engaging with Japanese press, reviewers, and influencers, and understand how to navigate local media dynamics, expectations, and timelines. You are comfortable managing complex projects, balancing global direction with local execution, and advising stakeholders on AMD messaging and culturally appropriate communications. You bring strong written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English, along with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. You are collaborative, responsive, and focused on delivering measurable impact through high-quality coverage and strong relationships. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and execute PR programs in Japan to support product launches, New Product Review Programs (NPRP), and ongoing awareness across AMD’s portfolio Build and maintain strong relationships with Japanese media, as well as bloggers and content creators Act as a key point of contact for local media inquiries, briefings, and interview opportunities Manage end-to-end review programs, including product seeding, media briefings, and coverage tracking Localize global messaging and materials to ensure relevance, clarity, and cultural appropriateness for the Japan market Partner with APJ Communications, HQ Product PR, Corporate Communications, and local sales and marketing teams to align priorities and execution Develop local PR campaigns, media events, and executive engagements in Japan Manage external PR agency partners to deliver against agreed objectives and KPIs Monitor media coverage, industry trends, and competitor activity in Japan; provide insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders Support issues management and ensure all communications adhere to AMD policies and guidelines Track, measure, and report PR performance, including coverage quality, sentiment, and impact Collaborate with ecosystem partners (OEMs, ODMs, system integrators, ISVs) to amplify AMD messaging in the local market PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Native-level Japanese and professional fluency in English (written and spoken) Proven experience in PR, communications, or media relations, ideally within technology or related industries Strong understanding of the Japanese media landscape and established media relationships preferred Experience working with global teams and adapting global messaging for local markets Experience managing PR agencies and external partners Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail LOCATION: Tokyo, Japan #LI-JV1 #LI-Hybrid Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
